VMMC data for decision making tools: Pathways to sustainability

Scaling up VMMC is critically important to reduce the future burden of HIV in Eastern and Southern Africa. The urgency of bringing VMMC to scale stems both from the continuing large numbers of new HIV infections in sub-Saharan Africa and from the effectiveness of male circumcision in reducing HIV transmission. This urgency is embodied in the Joint Strategic Action Framework to Accelerate the Scale-up of Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision for HIV Prevention in Eastern and Southern Africa.

Project SOAR has developed an extensive VMMC portfolio to support multiple countries in Eastern and Southern Africa with data to make informed policy and programmatic decisions about VMMC that address their specific needs and environments. This report provides an overview of those activities implemented through partners Avenir Health and Palladium. The portfolio encompasses three types of activities: 1) VMMC modeling and costing; 2) tools and capacity strengthening; and 3) data dissemination and use.
